This catalogue, which accompanied an exhibition of the same name held in 2007 at the Kadriorg Art Museum, introduces the work of one of the most interesting and gifted Estonian-based artists of the 18th century, Gottlieb Welté. He arrived from Mainz in 1781 and transcended boundaries in life and in art: his work extends from Rococo art depicting courtier lifestyles to noble classicism, and from gallant scenes to depictions of the Estonian peasantry.
