The Art Museum of Estonia celebrates the centennial of the Republic of Estonia

The year 2018 is significant to all Estonians.

The Art Museum of Estonia celebrates the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the independent state of Estonia with an extensive exhibition programme both at home and abroad. Within the centennial programme “EV 100”, the art museum has been and will be showing Estonian art in a larger number of reputable museums and galleries than ever before. The programme was launched last year with the exhibition The Archaeology of the Screen in Brussels and with Konrad Mägi’s personal exhibition in Rome.

In January of this year, a Michel Sittow exhibition was opened at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC; in April, the Musée d’Orsay in Paris will welcome visitors to an international collaborative display on symbolist art; exhibitions will also take place in Moscow and Japan. These displays will be open in Estonia starting in spring and summer.

The programme’s opening event in Estonia was the exhibition Art Society Pallas 100. Birth and Rebirth. In March, the Kumu will open the exhibition History in Images – Image in History, which will look at the impact of visual culture on the Estonian collective memory; in June, the Estonian public can, for the first time, admire Michel Sittow’s works from dozens of top museums in the world. All exhibitions held abroad to celebrate the anniversary of the republic and introduce Estonian culture internationally will also be brought to local art lovers.

We hope to offer art enthusiasts exciting art experiences throughout the anniversary year.

Happy 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia!
