First international meeting of the Sittow research project end of February 2021
At the end of February, the first international web meeting of the research project Michel Sittow in the North? Altarpieces in Dialogue took place. Nearly 30 art historians and specialists from Estonia, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Spain and Finland participated. The goal of the event was to present the starting points and work plans of the project.
Presentations were given by Estonian and Swedish art historians and conservators Merike Kurisoo, Greta Koppel, Lars Nylander and John Rothlind. The presentation of the German art historian Matthias Weniger focused on the works attributed to Michel Sittow. The Spanish art historians Olga Perez Monzón and Matilde Miquel Juan introduced the extensive research project which studies the late medieval painting in the Spanish courts and also embraces the work of Michel Sittow. The research meeting brought together renowned experts of medieval art from north to south and was the first in the row of the scheduled meetings.
