Artist talk: Slowing down with Krista Vindberga

Krista Vindberga pays a great deal of attention to time in her work. She often uses very time- and labor-intensive techniques, such as creating charcoal and pencil drawings, some of which take hundreds of hours to complete even in a small format. In the exhibition „The Politics of Slowness“, Vindberga presents her new work „Time for Time“ (2025), which explores the human perception, recording and experience of time. The artist will be in conversation with Karin Vicente, one of the curators of the exhibition „The Politics of Slowness“.

In recent years, “slow” technologies have re-emerged in the field of contemporary art: Analogue instead of digital, craft-techniques instead of machine-made and traditional materials instead of screens and virtuality. Artists are increasingly prioritising care and responsibility in their practices and consciously making sustainable choices.

Krista Vindberga (b. 1989, Latvia) is an artist with a background in painting and audiovisual media, who has also created numerous stage and costume designs. Her work intertwines time, memory, and historical gaps with visual sensitivity, expressed through labor-intensive pencil and charcoal drawings as well as video and installation works. Vindberga has a skill for opening up broader philosophical and socially relevant themes through meaningful details.

Participation is free of charge with an annual pass to the Art Museum of Estonia.
