Family Morning: Can of Snickers and Coca-Cola Ketchup (CLIL)
The permanent exhibition at Kumu, The Future Is in One Hour: Estonian Art in the 1990s, introduces us to art created in newly independent Estonia, art characterised by bold irony and humour. Mark Viljus’ installation Trademarks features Snickers cans and Coca-Cola ketchup, while Mare Tralla’s video Sing with Me helps us (re)interpret the nature of the Estonian national identity after independence. Raoul Kurvitz flashes colours and images in his work Pentatonic Color System. Programs 01&03.
Just as artists in the 1990s viewed life through irony and bold interventions, we will also explore the art of this period through playful exercises during the family morning. Participants can expect activities that are sometimes absurd and funny, but also develop their values. The family morning ends with a creative task, where each participant can design a trademark for their selected products (either based on existing ones or by creating something new).
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
LAK family mornings are held in Estonian, but the programme applies Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) methods. CLIL helps children learning Estonian to join Estonian-language programmes and supports their Estonian language studies.

About the Series
Kumu’s Family Mornings are meant for families with children between the ages of 4 and 8. Each meeting involves visiting an exhibition together, using playful methods to analyse it, and creating something with our hands. Guided by one of Kumu’s educators, the Family Mornings bring art closer to young art lovers through age-appropriate questions, discussions and exercises, while enabling parents to discover art in unexpected ways, too.
A Family Morning is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your family, discover art and gain unforgettable experiences!
NB! Please note that the art museum’s exhibitions may contain works of art depicting nudity.
