Family Morning: Children of the Sun
The Family Morning takes place at the permanent exhibition “Conflicts and Adaptations: Estonian Art of the Soviet Era (1940–1991)”. Kumu’s Family Mornings are a series of events designed for families with children aged four to eight.
The October Family Morning introduces life, education and culture in Estonia after World War II. Together we will explore why art at that time looked the way it did. We will explain how artists and exhibition visitors had to adapt to the new situation and what demands the ruling power placed on art and artists. We will also compare the lives of children today with those of children in the Soviet era and reflect on a famous song from that time, which talked about “the sun that was meant to shine upon us forever”. The morning concludes with a creative workshop in the studio, full of freedom.
There will also be a Family Morning in Estonian and a Family Morning involving integrated content and language learning methodology (CLIL).
About Family Mornings
Kumu’s Family Mornings are meant for families with children between the ages of 4 and 8. Each meeting involves visiting an exhibition together, using playful methods to analyse it, and creating something with our hands. Guided by one of Kumu’s educators, the Family Mornings bring art closer to young art lovers through age-appropriate questions, discussions and exercises, while enabling parents to discover art in unexpected ways, too.
A Family Morning is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your family, discover art and gain unforgettable experiences!
