10.10, 17.10 & 24.10 I 17.30‒19.30
This course takes inspiration from the expressive and symbolic works of Otto Dix, exploring identity through metaphor, gesture and emotional depth. Over three sessions, you’ll build portraits using texture, colour and symbolism to express who you are. Each session will also include a short guided look at one or two of Otto Dix’s artworks, offering artistic context and inspiration for your own portraits. We’ll try experimental oil pastel techniques, e.g. printing, scratching and using mixed materials.
The course is perfect for beginners who want to draw portraits but need help getting started. You can draw your own portrait or that of a friend or family member. Remember to bring a picture (digital or print-out) of the person you want to draw, or we can use mirrors in the studio for self-portraits.
By the end of the course, you’ll have made three expressive oil pastel portraits and gained confidence in using this vibrant, hands-on medium.
