Concert Series of Contemporary Sacred Music METHANOIA
A Door into the Light
Sacred music by composer Valeri Petrov
Ensemble Orthodox Singers
Conductor Valeri Petrov
Mari-Liis Uibo (violin) Anna-Pelagea Petrov (violin)
The new concert series of contemporary sacred music “Methanoia” introduces modern music that is directly connected with the inner life, spirituality, and eternity of people in our time. In Greek, “methanoia” means repentance or a change of mind. The exceptional repertoire chosen for the concert series points to the question of whether and how music can change a person internally. This meditative concert is dedicated to the beloved composer Arvo Pärt on his 90th anniversary.
Concert programme:
- ICON “THE INEXHAUSTIBLE CUP” from the cycle “Icons in Music”
- “METHANOIA” (“Repentance”) for the 90th anniversary of composer Arvo Pärt o Part I: “Open to me the doors of repentance, O Giver of Life… Glory” o Part II: “Now and always and forever. Amen” o Part III: “Have mercy on me, O God” o Part IV: “Reflecting on the many sins I have committed…”
- SONG TO THE GUARDIAN ANGEL
