Family Morning: When Pictures Sing and Sheep Bleat Along (CLIL)

On the Family Morning in September, we will visit the exhibition Ragnar Kjartansson: A Boy and a Girl and a Bush and a Bird. In his oeuvre the Icelandic video artist and painter Ragnar Kjartansson draws inspiration from pop music, recent and classic art history and, indirectly, from political upheavals. Although full of cultural quotes, Kjartansson’s oeuvre is truly affective: it touches viewers strongly even if they don’t recognise all of the references.

CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) Family Mornings take place in Estonian using the CLIL methodology to enable children learning Estonian to take part in Kumu’s Estonian-language programmes and to support their language studies.

On this Family Morning we will look closely at some of the performative videos and paintings at the exhibition. Special attention will be paid to sounds and music that impact us physically: we will move our mouths and tongues, as well as the rest of our bodies. Cooperation will also play an important role in addition to music: we will let our voices sound in unison, co-create a soundtrack for the pictures and herd sheep amidst Ragnar Kjartansson’s paintings.
We invite all of you to discover art with us and to create unforgettable experiences!

NB! Please note that the art museum’s exhibitions may contain works of art depicting nudity.

There will also be a Family Morning in English and a Family Morning involving integrated content and language learning methodology (CLIL).

About Family Mornings

Kumu’s Family Mornings are meant for families with children between the ages of 4 and 8. Each meeting involves visiting an exhibition together, using playful methods to analyse it, and creating something with our hands. Guided by one of Kumu’s educators, the Family Mornings bring art closer to young art lovers through age-appropriate questions, discussions and exercises, while enabling parents to discover art in unexpected ways, too.
A Family Morning is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your family, discover art and gain unforgettable experiences!
