Master of Iranian traditional music: Mirtohid Radfar

The concert is an opportunity to discover the unique musical talent of the outstanding Iranian traditional music master Mirtohid Radfar (percussion, oud, tanbur). Alongside Iranian traditional music, the premiere will also feature a work by Estonian composer Toivo Tulev, created especially for this concert, and free improvisations on period instruments.

Mirtohid Radfar, an Iranian composer and multi-instrumentalist based in France, represents the Iranian Sufi heritage in music. He plays mainly the classical instrument tanbour, evoking very deep emotions in his audiences. As a tanburi virtuoso, he skilfully navigates the boundaries between delicate and extremely powerful expression.
On two albums released under the Maktabe Tanboore Bastan label, known for its release of sacred music, he presents the possibilities of fusing traditional music with contemporary musical elements.
