Vanishing of a City: Hilda Kamdron’s Drawings as a Trauma Narrative
Hilda Kamdron (1900–1972) was considered one of the most talented students of the Pallas Art School, but almost all of her works have been lost or forgotten. It is only recently that Kamdron has begun to be rediscovered, mainly as a scientific illustrator. This exhibition focuses on two series of drawings from the Tartu City Museum’s collection. One set depicts the destruction of Tartu in the Second World War, conveying the artist’s deep personal sadness, while the other series provides a negative view of the construction of a new modernist housing estate in Tartu.
