Workshop: Fine Fish

In the workshop “Fine Fish” at the Kumu Courtyard Festival, fish farmers from Saaremaa will introduce the most popular Estonian edible fish species.

Tiina, the owner of Tihemetsa Kala, introduces the workshop:

“We will cut fish open and see what they look like on the inside. We will bring some nets and traps from Saaremaa to find out how to catch fish from the sea. If you like, you can clean a fish yourself and take it home afterwards.”
Younger children and their parents are invited to test their knowledge of the sea and fish by completing worksheets about fish species and colouring pictures of fish.

The workshops start at 12:00, 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00
Duration: about 45 minutes

Tihemetsa Kala is located in the village of Nasva in Saaremaa. The company has been operating for over 30 years, today the fourth generation of fishermen continues the tradition. Tihemetsa Kala makes smoked fish from Saaremaa fishermen’s catch and, depending on the season, a variety of culinary specialities, all using local fish. During the summer season, the fish farm is open for small and large groups to enjoy cooked fish, and a variety of fish products are also for sale. “We are a simple, traditional fishermen’s farm where you can eat, drink and have fun.”
