Curator and Artists Tour of the Exhibition Who Is Afraid of Motherhood?

A guided tour of the new Great Hall exhibition Who Is Afraid of Motherhood? will be led by participating artists and the curator. During the tour, the artists Maria Kapajeva, Aliona (Jelena) Šalaj, Lenka Klodová, Hanna Hrabarska, Lilija Dinere, Emilia Rigova, Maija Kurševa, and members of the feminist art collective Maternal Fantasies Isabell Spengler and Magdalena Kallenberger, together with the curator Eda Tuulberg, will introduce the exhibition’s central themes and discuss artworks that explore the different facets of the experience of motherhood.

The international group exhibition brings together artistic perspectives from Central and Eastern Europe and the Baltic region to explore the tensions between personal and social life, asking how motherhood might serve as a way to imagine and create a more caring society.
The exhibition is grounded in the conviction that, while motherhood is a deeply personal experience, it is also influenced by the fact that it is an institution that has been largely shaped by a world operating on unequal terms. The exhibition addresses questions of parenthood, care, family and belonging, as well as reproductive rights, childlessness, infertility, single parenthood, gender identity, and the impact of violence and war on individuals and communities. Framed by the motif of fear, the featured artists examine vulnerability, responsibility, love and transformation in relation to motherhood. At the same time, the exhibition invites visitors to imagine more caring relationships, and a more just and supportive society.

This event is part of the public programme accompanying the exhibition Who Is Afraid of Motherhood?.
