The concert is dedicated to medieval Nordic music. Medieval songs in honour of Scandinavian saints, Swedish chorales and songs from the collection Piae Cantiones will be performed.
The concert on All Souls’ Day is part of the public programme of the exhibition Michel Sittow in the North? Altarpieces in Dialogue. The concert has been inspired by the exhibition Michel Sittow in the North? Altarpieces in Dialogue, which brings together two late medieval works, the Tallinn Passion altarpiece and the Bollnäs Holy Kinship retabel in Sweden. In art history, both altarpieces are associated with Michel Sittow (ca 1469–1525), an internationally renowned artist who was born in Tallinn. The magnificent Bollnäs altarpiece was probably created in Tallinn in the workshop of Michel Sittow. During the same period, Sittow also painted the outer side of the wings of the Tallinn Passion altarpiece. The exhibition unravels the stories behind the two works and focuses on Michel Sittow’s activities in his hometown and in Tallinn as a late medieval art centre.
