Graphics: Japanese woodcut

Three-part woodcut course: 30.05, 31.05, 01.06 from 17.30-19-30
Instructor: Tarrvi Laamann

Woodcut is a relief printing technique that uses wood as the base material. The image is cut into the surface using special knives and/or chisels. Artist Tarrvi Laamann is one of the few Estonian printmakers who has studied Japanese woodcut technique in Japan with a master. He explains the use of his favourite technique as follows: “You never know exactly what the final outcome will be since wood can play many tricks. […] The fact that there are so many variables is what makes woodcuts so fascinating.”

The course will include the distinctive features of woodcuts, the use of cutting knives and various techniques of cutting.
The course will be held in Estonian but English translation is possible.

All levels are welcome including beginners.

On the day of the course, the participants can visit the exhibitions free of charge.
