Kristjan Randalu x New Wind Jazz Orchestra „Sisu“
Asukoht: Kumu auditoorium
In August 2021, New Wind Jazz Orchestra recorded its first album with Kristjan Randalu. The recording Sisu is produced by Wolf Kerschek (Germany) and Lauri Kadalipp, sound engineer Siim Mäesalu. The album will be presented with concerts in Põlva, Viljandi, Tallinn, Paide.
New Wind Jazz Orchestra combines a young and fierce temperament with professional mastery. Founded in 2018, the new generation of musicians aims to take Estonian jazz orchestral culture to an international level by collaborating with the best composers and conductors from Estonia and abroad. In the four years of their existence, they have performed at the home of Estonian jazz Philly Joe’s jazz club, Sõru Jazz, Triigi Philharmonic, Kumu Auditorium and Jazzkaar Festival, among others. They have also shared the stage with John Riley, drummer of the world-famous US big band Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra (now called The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra), and Antti Rissanen, trombonist and leader of Finland’s best-known big band. Led by saxophonist Lauri Kadalipp, the big band loves to challenge itself with new challenges and professional repertoire, as is the case with Kristjan Randalu’s work.
New Wind Jazz Orchestra and Kristjan Randalu first performed together last summer at the Triigi Philharmonic in the concert programme of Jazz Estonia. The concert was a stunning performance of Kristjan Randalu’s works and arrangements, focusing on the piano as soloist with a contemporary jazz orchestra. In addition to new compositions, new arrangements of previously released recordings (“Enter Denter”, “Absence”), recent orchestral and choral works “Inner Asylum” (Randalu & Tallinn Chamber Orchestra) and “Four Songs from the Land of Birth” (Randalu & Estonian National Male Choir) as well as arrangements of works by Uno Naissoo, Ülo Vinter and Olav Ehala were performed. The concert at the Triigi Philharmonic was also recorded by Klassikaraadio (Classical Radio).
The album Sisu is mixed and mastered in Germany and is due to be released in the Fall of 2022 by label Whirlwind Recordings.
