Fight Club is a 1999 American film directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, and Helena Bonham Carter. It is based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk. Norton plays the unnamed narrator, who is discontented with his white-collar job. He forms a “fight club” with a new friend, Durden (Pitt), and becomes embroiled in a relationship with him and a mysterious woman, Marla Singer (Bonham Carter). The Fight Club attracts new members all over the country, and reality starts to fade away. The reaction to the film was controversial – there’s a lot of violence – but it has also been praised as one of the most thought-provoking, original films of the nineties. By many it is seen as defining the decade.
