Beauty and Magic in Ancient Egypt

A social exhibition programme for groups of friends, birthday celebrants and work teams. The programme begins with a tour of the large exhibition of ancient Egyptian art called The Splendour of Egypt.

The exhibition has been organised in collaboration with the Muzeo Egizio (Egyptian Museum) in Italy, which has one of the largest collections of ancient Egyptian objects in the world. There are 200 archaeological finds on display that are thousands of years old. After the tour, the participants will head to the Kumu ceramic studio, where they will mould amulets or small sculptures from Egyptian faience or quartz mass. After firing, the pieces will achieve a beautiful shiny turquoise finish. In ancient Egypt, the composition of the quartz mass was continually improved in an attempt to replicate turquoise gemstones. The colour blue had a special meaning for Egyptians: it symbolised the sky and the universe, as well as the Nile River and water in general. Therefore, the colour was associated with divine creative power and rebirth.

The workshop is suitable for children over 10 years of age. Younger participants will mould amulets and small sculptures from clay, which are then covered with colourful engobes (liquefied clay).

Pre-booking required. In Estonian, Russian and English
Duration of the programme: two hours
