The Painting Collection is one of the oldest collections in the Art Museum of Estonia and also the most often used. It consists of more than 6,500 works of art, including well-known and loved masterpieces from the founders of Estonian national art, from the members of the Pallas school and the Group of Estonian Artists, and from Soviet-era authors. The majority of the collection is comprised of 20th- and 21st-century Estonian art, from national romanticism to postmodernism, from traditional panel paintings to post-millennial innovations. The collection also includes samples of 19th- and 20th-century artworks by Baltic Germans, Russians and other minorities living in Estonia.
