In Livonia, just like in the rest of Europe, pilgrimages formed an intrinsic part of medieval life. This exhibition, which provides an overview of the phenomenon, is the first opportunity for the public to see the majority of currently known Estonian and Latvian material artefacts, as well as the textual and artistic legacy, of Livonian pilgrimages.

The exhibition brings together the works of Elisàr von Kupffer (1872–1942), an artist with a Baltic-German background, and of the Estonian artist Jaanus Samma (1982).

The new permanent exhibition highlights the versatility of the artist as a delicate painter, as well as a renowned creator of applied art who revealed the richness of his ideas and dynamic movement between various fields of art.

In the new visible storage space on the ground floor of Kadriorg Palace, visitors can explore the museum’s Western European and Russian sculpture collection, comprised of over 250 artworks dating from the 18th to the 20th centuries.

The exhibition introduces members of the Kügelgen family, who played a significant role in the cultural history of Estonia. The display includes works of art created by the Kügelgens and everyday objects associated with the family. The majority of the exhibits belong to the private collection of the Kügelgen family. Tallinn is the third city, after Lüneburg and Dresden, where this exhibition has been held.

This exhibition represents one possible approach to the Estonian art of the second half of the 20th century, when it was characterised mainly by conflicts with and adaptations to the new political order established after World War II.

This contemporary art exhibition invites viewers to consider issues related to mental health and well-being. How can we maintain a comfortable balance between joy and sorrow, work and leisure? Why do things sometimes get out of balance?

The permanent exhibition, launched in 2021, tells the story of Estonian art as it evolved through Estonia’s multi-ethnic history, growing into a heritage that blends Estonian, Baltic German and Russian traditions.

This is the first major exhibition of Latin American art in Estonia, featuring art from the Spanish Colonial period, as well as works by 20th-century artists from Uruguay, Peru, Chile, Mexico and Cuba.

Jevgeni Zolotko (b. 1983) is one of the most original Estonian contemporary artists. The exhibition showcases the artist’s recent works. It also features some brand new works created specifically for the exhibition.

The collection in the Niguliste Museum holds the most remarkable and valuable part of the medieval and early modern ecclesiastical art of Estonia. Most of the works of art in the Niguliste Museum’s collection originate from the church itself and have been displayed in their former locations.

The exhibition space on the two floors of the Small Chapel features medieval (13th–16th-century) sculptures and altarpieces from Estonian churches.

The Niguliste Museum presents the Swedish Royal Armoury’s family exhibition of unicorns and expands it with fantastic and mythical creatures from Estonian collections. The exhibition explores the story and meaning of the magical unicorn and opens up a wider world of fictional and fantastic creatures.

On the first floor of the medieval church tower, accessible by medieval stairs and a modern glass lift, visitors can explore a display of historical church bells.

A brand-new glass lift that takes visitors to the top of the tower, where they can enjoy unique panoramic views of the medieval Old Town and Tallinn Bay.
