The concert “Põhja(m/p)aine värk” in the Garden of Souls series has by now become a traditional autumn fixture for our audiences, bringing together the acoustics of St Nicholas’ Church, the timbres of plucked-string instruments and the music of Estonian composers.
This time, the title is in English What’s the Matter Up North? a play on the Estonian words aine, paine and maine — matter, tension and the earthly. It brings together the approaching season of all souls, the fading of nature, the effort to hold on to hope and the anticipation of light. Accordingly, the works on the programme weave together the emotions and sound colours characteristic of people in the Nordic lands — and we recognise them in ourselves!
Programme
Eespere, Krigul, Jürgens, Soo/Jürgens, Kreek, Tikka (world premiere) and free improvisations
With the concert ticket, you can also visit the museum’s exhibition before the concert begins.
